There have been some new discoveries in the Long Island Serial Killer case as new items were recovered this week. A pocketbook was discovered in an area that would have been submerged under water during other searches. They believe the wallet belongs to Shannan Gilbert, who disappeared back in 2010 when running away from a client in the same area where the bodies of the serial killer's victims have been discovered.
Finding a wallet is often something that can break a case wide open, but it may not be the case here. Despite finding the pocketbook, police still believe that Shannan Gilbert is not a victim of the Long Island serial killer. Police made a statement about the wallet and about Shannan, who is the individual who sparked the entire investigation that led to 10 dead bodies.
"We believe that Shannan Gilbert ran into that area the night she disappeared," Richard Dormer of the Suffolk County Police explained in a statement according to the LA Times. "Looking at the terrain, it's very easy to get (stuck) ... and not be able to get out there." In addition to the wallet, jeans, shoes and a cell phone have also been recovered. Given the conditions of the 10 other victims, police cannot find a pattern that links Shannon to the Long Island serial killer's patterns. They do, however, believe that Shannan's body is in the area somewhere.
A total of 10 bodies have been found in the same area and all are believed to be the victims of the Long Island serial killer. Shannan's belongings and her story seems to be just a coincidence.
What do you think? Is Shannan Gilbert a victim of this horrific serial killer?
