Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield play lovers in The Amazing Spider-Man. With the film coming out this summer and in need of promotion, they're playing lovers offscreen, as well.
The duo, who have supposedly been dating the past few months, have been photographed more regularly lately, with the most recent sighting coming this weekend in New York City. The pair were snapped walking hand in hand and kissing several times (pics can been seen at The Daily Mail).
But are they really dating, or is this just a showmance for publicity? Their initial hookup was reported in June, just a month after Andrew split from his longtime girlfriend, actress Shannon Woodward. But they weren't actually photographed together until two months later, after Jim Carrey released that "I love you" video about Emma—and they were coming out of a restaurant that's a notorious paparazzi haunt, so that was obviously staged. They've been slowly rolling out their "romance" since then, and now, with the movie due out in a few short months, it's probably just a total coincidence that the paparazzi shots are getting more frequent—they've been spotted together on movie sets and going on "dates" (although in many of those pics, he could not look less interested in her). There was speculation when Andrew broke up with Shannon that the studio would try to pair him with a starlet for the Amazing Spider-Man promotion, and it looks like that's what's happening here. The question is, how long will they last after the film comes out?
What do you think? Are Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield actually dating? Is this just a showmance? Sound off in the comments!
