Westboro Baptist Church Raises Money for Gay Alliance

The Westboro Baptist Church loves to troll and spread their ignorant hatred from one end of the country to the next. It was earlier reported that the cult fronted by Fred Phelps is planning on harassing a high school. Well guess what, the joke's on them! It seems that these clever students and everyone else involved have found a brilliant way to counter the WBC protests.

For every half hour that the Westboro Baptist Church protests, funds will be donated from the Gay-Straight Alliance and other gay friendly organizations to the Clayton High School, which will be protested. So, by proxy, the WBC will be raising money for gay rights awareness. Isn't that awesome?

Chances are this Phelps-a-Thon won't last long because you know this bigoted family of imbeciles won't want to raise too much for the people they want to torture relentlessly. In fact, they'll probably back out entirely like they've been doing with many of their recent protest attempts. Oh well, let them all stay behind the walls of their cult-like neighborhood compound. Nobody wants them around and they know it, so the more people who follow in the footsteps of these brilliant students and event organizers the quicker the country might see less of these degenerates.

What an excellent plan! I still say protesting a funeral should not be considered freedom of speech and should be made a crime. There is absolutely no good reason to have a protest at any one's funeral....and is only done to hurt the mourners... which is so distasteful, it should be a punishable crime.

I agree. There should be a law against invading the privacy of people gathering for a funeral. Sounds like this church is a bundle of hate. Their church services are probably a save haven for demons. So sad.

they were scheduled to protest at my towns high school last year. They never showed...but about 100 people showed up to protest them! and this was all on a days notice. There were young and old, straight and gay, veterans and...well you name it! everyone was there to show them we didn't want them in our town. There was even a church group that made a banner reading "standing on the side of love."

They have always and forever will do more for their opposition than they ever will for their cause with their style of protest. Nobody wants to be associated with them so they will lean the other way out of self defense.

It is great to see so many others standing up and not letting them be the only voice that is heard.

So ineffectual are they at advancing their stated goals one might almost believe they are a bit of theatre designed to undermine the hatred against gays (and others) promoted with somewhat less vehemence by some other denominations of psuedo-Christians.

So, Westboro Baptist Church and Fred Phelps: thanks for all you've done, wittingly or unwittingly, to advance the cause of gay rights. Because of you acceptance is spreading like wild fire.

At every event where they plant to show their face someone should carry a sign like that, thanking them for advancing gay rights.

At this point, the WBC only stands as a reminder that we need to speak love and acceptance so that their words of hate and intolerance don't go uncountered.

The KKK would have rallies where I used to live. About 10 ppl would show up and 500-1000 would also be there as a counter rally to protest the Klan. I think the same type of people join the WB church as used to join the KKK.

Very nice stategy. We've had a few funerals of servicemembers where these swine were expected, but, needless to say, there were plenty of plans for buffering the service from the demonstrations. This counter proposal, if it caught on, could have an even greater chilling effect. Of course, it would have to be in area that is substantially gay-tolerant. But I like it.

If Fred were fundamentally protesting anything other than gay tolerance his organization would have been wiped out years ago.

A counter-picket crowd of about 500 showed up here in MO on Friday, along with dozens of law enforcement officials, including SWAT. They didn't show. Talk about a waste of resources, but it's better to be prepared.
