Leaves made of human hair
As fall gives way to winter, the few remaining leaves on the ground turn to a lacey shadow of their earlier existence. It is this stage of decay that artist Jenine Shereos recreates in her soft delicate sculptures.
Attention is closely paid to the veins that form the leaves' skeleton which Jenine Shereos recreates in her hair sculptures.
On her web-site, Shereos says, "Creating this work was a very meditative process for me, as I found myself lost in the detail of the small, organic microcosm that began taking shape."
The leaves are created by the wrapping, knotting, and stitching together strands of human hair.
"The complex network of lines present in this work mimics the organic patterns found in nature and speaks to the natural systems of transformation, growth and decay."
Parallels:
Shereos sees the leaf and hair as ornaments of tree and body and brings them gently together in these intriguing works of art.
