Rep. Richard Steinberg, a married father of a daughter from Florida resigns after sending anonymous sexually charged texts to an assistant US attorney in Miami, who is also married. After receiving dozens of texts, like "good morning, sexxxy," the frustrated victim finally pursued a warrant, which traced back to Steinberg.
During a meeting of the House Democratic Caucus on Thursday, Democratic leader Rep. Ron Saunders, D-Key West, told his staff about Rep. Richard Steinberg's resignation where "apparently" members were advised not to speak with the press about the case, according to the Miami Herald, which first broke the story. Ironically, Steinberg has previously voted in favor of anti-stalking legislation. The arrogance that this man has shown is astonishing. Of course his character and integrity are now questioned, as this was not a one-time lapse of judgement, but a systematic and continued obsession. It would not be a stretch to consider that he has done this to others.
According to USA Today, federal authorities were investigating the messages as a possible stalking case, an offense that carries a maximum one-year jail sentence.
