Thirteen-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam (sometimes spelled Haslum in reports), was beaten, strangled and stabbed before she was discovered in a baseball dugout in Sacramento. The teen had "run away" from her mother on Monday night before she was discovered slain the following morning. More details are coming out in this case aside from the fact that no weapons have appeared to been found, and they raise suspicion and speculation to say the least.
Of course, speculation is what you can expect when Nancy Grace is involved, but it's the actual facts behind the case that raise suspicion this time. Even though the coroner reports state that Jessica Funk-Haslam was beaten, strangled and stabbed there have been no discoveries of a strangling weapon or bludgeoning device like a bat or something else. There hasn't appeared to been a knife found either as far as reports have shown.
What's more, the mother apparently didn't report her missing at any time throughout the night after she "ran from the home" to go meet someone. She said the girl left her mobile phone behind and she couldn't get in touch with her. She said she doesn't "know" her daughter's friends, so she didn't know how to get ahold of to find out where she had gone. So what did she do? Just go to bed and sleep while her daughter was out who-knows-where until the morning news alerted her to the possibility that her daughter had been murdered? She didn't even call the 13-year-old girl's father, Allen Porter, when she was gone throughout the night.
Porter revealed that Jessica had been molested a few years back by her mother's ex-boyfriend who is serving time in prison in Lovelock, Nevada. He blames this sexual abuse on the girl's rebellion and her tendency to "run away from home." He also made a comment about getting her away from the environment that makes her want to run away from home. Whatever the case may be, she must not have had a good home life with her mother.
So who was she going to meet the night she allegedly ran away from her mother during an argument? And why on Earth did the woman not call the police after a little while passed? How could she have relaxed throughout the night even if her daughter had run away before? She was 13 years old!

You didn't do anything wrong, Heather.
It is so odd she didn't alert the father or anyone and that is really sad in itself. Her daughter was only 13. If when my youngest who is 17 did that... I'd be making calls and out looking for her and it would certainly be a night I did not sleep. My daughter would not leave the house without her cell phone either. If my daughter left angry like that, I am sure she would want to call her friends to tell them the story.
