$1,000,000 Virginia Powerball Winner
Ever since Powerball raised their prices in January 2012, from $1 to $2 per ticket, there have been some really big lottery prizes awarded, because along with the higher prices, prize amounts doubled in most cases.
Take last Saturday's Virginia Powerball winner for example. Prior to January 15th, the Virginia Powerball winner would have received only $200,000 for matching five out of six Powerball winning numbers, but not the Powerball number. Not a bad deal for a $1 wager.
The March 31st Virginia lottery winner matched the same number of winning lottery numbers, but now the second-tier prize is $1,000,000! And if he or she spent an extra dollar on a Power Play ticket, the prize would have doubled to $2,000,000! The winning Powerball ticket was sold at Food Lion, 4221 Pleasant Valley Road in Virginia Beach, VA. Unfortunately for this Powerball winner, he or she didn't plop down the extra buck!
This is Virginia's second $1,000,000 Powerball winner since the game changed in January. According to the Washington Post, Iona "John" Vancea of Falls Church won the $1 million prize in March 2012.
When Is Tonight's Powerball Drawing!
The next Powerball drawing is April 4, 2012 at 10:59pm EDT. Wednesday's estimated Powerball jackpot is $70,000,000 annuity, or a one-time cash payment of $42,600,000 before taxes. The Powerball winning numbers are drawn live Wednesday and Saturday evenings, and is played in 42 States, Washington D.C. and the US Virgin Islands. You can catch the live drawing on select TV stations around annuity the country, or by viewing Power Ball Live online, also at 10:59pm.
