Six (6) Match 5 + 0 lottery winners took home second-tier prizes. The Friday the 13th Mega Millions winners purchased their tickets from the Arkansas Lottery, California Lottery, Delaware Lottery, Illinois Lottery, Michigan Lottery, and New York Lottery commissions.
Great news for the second-tier California winner that matched five out of six Mega Millions winning numbers, but not the Mega Ball number. According to California Lottery officials, Mega Millions prize amounts are pari-mutuel, which means the prize amounts will vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners. So in the case of the April 13th Mega Millions drawing, the Match 5 + 0 California lottery winner will get $520,054, whereas the rest of the second-tier Mega Millions winners will win $250,000 each. However, those winners holding Megaplier tickets for this wager will end up being a millionaire!
There were also thirty-eight Match 4 + 1 winners for $10,000 each. Anyone playing the Megaplier option for this size wager will have their prize winnings multiplied by 4 to $40,000 each. What an awesome return on a $2 Megaplier investment! All together, there were 641,023 lottery winners in last night's drawing. Who says Friday the 13th is unlucky?
When is the next Mega Millions drawing?
The next Mega Millions drawing is April 17, 2012 at 11:00pm EDT. Tuesday's estimated jackpot is $53,000,000 annuity, or $38,000,000 cash-value before taxes. Mega Millions winning numbers are drawn Tuesday and Friday evenings at WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia. Tickets are sold in 42 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The final Mega Millions results are usually available within a few hours of the drawing.
