It seems one California Mega Millions winner is a lot richer after matching the Mega Millions winning numbers in a recent drawing. The latest lottery winner scored $520,054 by picking the lucky numbers on the unluckiest of days—Friday the 13th!

John Harris didn't waste any time claiming his mega money prize either. Considering the Mega Millions drawing was late Friday night, Harris was already was cashing in on Monday, April 16th! When California Lottery officials asked Harris how he felt about his newfound wealth, Harris simply said "Relieved!"
The California lottery winner matched five out of six Mega Millions winning numbers (9, 14, 17, 36, 42), but not the Mega Ball number (33), for a prize of $520,054. The second-tier Mega Millions prize would normally pay out $250,000 in all other states. However, California Mega Millions prize amounts are pari-mutuel, which means the prize will vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners in that particular drawing.
Five additional second-tier Mega Millions tickets were sold for the April 13th drawing—one each in Arkansas, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan and New York. The lottery winners also had five white Mega Millions numbers, missing only the Mega Ball number, and were worth $250,000 each.
Harris purchased his lucky Mega Millions ticket at Randy's Mini Market, 5739 EL Cajon Bl, San Diego, California.

The next Mega Millions drawing is April 17, 2012 at 11:00 p.m. EDT. Tuesday's estimated jackpot is $53,000,000 annuity, or $38,000,000 cash-value before taxes. Mega Millions winning numbers are drawn Tuesday and Friday evenings at WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia. Tickets are sold in 42 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The final Mega Millions results are usually available within a few hours of the drawing.
