Just a bit over a year after the Japan tsunami, a soccer ball lost in the disaster was found in Alaska. Misaki Murakami had his name on his prized ball, and he thought it was lost forever.
It is amazing that David Baxter and his wife Yumi (who is Japanese) found the ball as they were combing the beach at Middleton Island. In 2005, Murakami received the soccer ball as a goodbye gift from his classmates when he moved to a new school, so it is wonderful that he will actually get this prized possession back after the Japan tsunami took nearly all of his things.
Of the amazing soccer ball find, Murakami said, "It was a big surprise. I've never imagined that my ball has reached Alaska. I've lost everything in the tsunami. So I'm delighted. I really want to say thank you for finding the ball."
The couple plans to mail the soccer ball back to the teen. As amazing as this story is, the couple also found another ball, this one a volleyball, that had Shiori Sato's name on it. She said, "Good heavens! I want to say (to the ball) 'Welcome back!' I think it's a miracle."
It does seem like a miracle doesn't it? These people lost so very much in the Japan tsunami, and while the sports balls are such small items, when everything is gone, it must be nice to have some mementos back finally. Can you believe that these items are already hitting the U.S. and people are getting there things back?
