Unless you have been living under a rock you know something about the Trayvon Martin case. Despite conflicting reports, all of the media outlets agreed on one thing: Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman on February 26th, 2012 in Sanford, Florida. Beyond that, the media agrees on little where this case is concerned.
NBC admitted that they had edited the 911 call which made it seem as though Zimmerman targeted Martin because of his race. NBC fired the person responsible. ABC admitted that they had "cleaned up" the video of Zimmerman which cast doubt to his claim of self-defense. Social media has been a chaotic sea of rants on both sides of the issue and Twitter was alerted to the numerous death threats against Zimmerman. On April 23rd, 2012, Zimmerman was released from jail on $150,000 bond while he awaits trial on charges of second degree murder. Almost immediately Twitter had tweets from people calling for the death of Zimmerman including "Ima kill Zimmerman myself *loads semi* where he at" and "Someone pass me a gun, imma go follow zimmerman, shoot and kill him and say #imstandingmyground." Some also apparently confused being released on bail with double jeopardy, "Once u been convicted of a crime & let out on bail u can't be charged 2x for the same thing so that means sum1 gonna have to kill Zimmerman" from someone calling herself "Da Lovely." It's for this reason that it is believed that Zimmerman is no longer in Florida but still on an ankle monitor.
For a couple of weeks after the shooting, protesters took to the streets in Sanford, Florida to protest the fact that Zimmerman had not been arrested or charged in what they claimed was a hate crime. Zimmerman cited self-defense.
What's interesting is how much attention this case got from the moment that it was determined that the Zimmerman was white. This was considered an attack based on race, even though the F.B.I. statistics show that White-on-Black attacks are rare. As soon as it was determined that Zimmerman was bi-racial and self-identified as Hispanic, he was portrayed in the media as a "White-Hispanic" though before this case that term was rarely used. Equally as disturbing is that unwillingness of the media to report the numbers of Black-on-Black crimes. The only violent crimes that the media seems comfortable with is that perpetrated by Whites. It's somewhat reminiscent of the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin."
It has become clear over the past decade that the media has a profound bias in reporting violent crime. The stories of horrific attacks on Whites by Blacks go almost reported in the national news while virtually every White-on-Black crime becomes a top story.
According to the F.B.I., young Black men are responsible for a disproportionate amount of violent crimes in this country. Last summer, the Mayor of Chicago had to close down the city's beaches because young Black thugs were terrorizing White families. That was also barely mentioned in the media. When you have a small segment of society causing havoc, people will quickly learn to be wary of all members of that segment. Even those who are only dressing the part.
The real problem, the real tragedy, is that this didn't have to happen. The glorification of the "Thug" lifestyle and the breakdown of the Black family are to blame. The tolerance by the Black community for the violent behavior of their young men is reprehensible.
Martin, via his Twitter page, showed that he had embraced the thug way of life. He dressed the part, he acted the part. Does that mean he deserved to die? Of course not. It does explain what George Zimmerman saw that night.
George Zimmerman saw a young black thug walking down the street in an area that has been plagued with crime. If Zimmerman is telling the truth, Trayvon hit him, knocking him to the ground. Then Martin began pounding Zimmerman's head into the pavement. Martin was 70 yards from home when he was shot.
While the Trayvon Martin shooting is a tragedy, it's time the American people started demanding less emotion from their media and more facts. The job of the press is to relay the facts of the incident to the public, not to make judgements if the particular story fits into their personal views of the world.
If Zimmerman is telling the truth, and much of the evidence suggests that he is, then Martin died because rather than run home to safety he took his love of the thug lifestyle too far and confronted Zimmerman. It ended with his 17-year-old life vanishing into the darkness. That's how most thugs end up. Those who push the glorification of crime, being a "thug" and "keeping it real" don't have to do the dying for those who listen to them.
All of this boils down to the worst and most pervasive racism coming from both the media and the so-called Black leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Rather than work to end the troubling issues in their community, they seemingly ignore anything that doesn't appear to be Whites harming Blacks. Ignoring the problems in their own communities and expecting everyone else to simply allow this behavior to continue as though Black men are capable of nothing more than thuggery is a sham. Their race baiting is racism at its worst and is done primarily because it is what they have chosen as a career. When the media allows it to continue unchecked and by reporting through a politically correct lens, it becomes racism in and of itself. It also means that Americans can no longer trust the media to tell them the facts of the news.
That's the greatest tragedy in all of this.

colleague in the neighborhood watch, who happened to be black, handsome and articulate,
which seems to matter a lot in our superficial society. The ABC Sunday anchor Dan Harris tried to pin him down on who was in pursuit to discredit the self-defense claim. Both the lawyer and his colleague were evasive, pointing out there were burglaries in the gated neighborhood. As if rehearsed, they both insisted Zimmerman was not a racist. They also shown a young boy, who claimed he saw Martin banging Zimmerman's head against the pavement, but under persistent questioning, admitted he only witnessed the aftermath, but he did hear the shot. ABC first showed the police footage that didn't indicate any injury as they led the handcuffed Zimmerman to the police van, later "enhanced forensically," to show scratches on the back of his head. His shirt wasn't bloody as claimed. Zimmerman was in pursuit despite counsel from the 911 operator, "You don't want to do that." If I was being chased by someone who looked as threatening as Zimmerman did, I'd defend myself too.
I notice he looks more sympathetic today than when he appeared in the police tape. Probably, doesn't have much of an appetite. I think the kid he killed had a better case for self-defense. The ranting in social media is doing more to confuse the issue than the mainstream press.
