Would you buy two tickets with the same five Powerball numbers on them? Not many people would. Then again, Julie Trainor isn't just any ordinary Powerball winner. Wisconsin Lottery officials announced April 24th that Trainor claimed not just one $1,000,000 Powerball prize, but two $1,000,000 winning lottery tickets for the same drawing! That's a total of $2,000,000 on the same day.
According to Pioneer Press, Julie kept her fellow townsfolk in suspense for more than a week before claiming her millions. No doubt Julie was seeking some financial and legal counsel before coming forward. Wouldn't you do the same if you won $2,000,000?
Beth Manka, manager of the Countryside Cooperative Whitehall Cenex Convenience Store said, "Communities like this, small communities, love nothing more than to have some juicy gossip going around, so it's really kept things interesting and exciting around town."
Julie Trainor matched five out of six Powerball winning numbers (14, 15, 16, 19 and 24), but not the Powerball number (2), for the April 14th drawing. However, Julie played the same five numbers on both tickets, changing only the Powerball number. Sadly, neither number (3, 12) was the lucky Powerball that would have won Julie the grand prize. After paying state and federal taxes, Trainor received a cash payment of $1,345,000.
