The Occupy Wall Street movement descended on the International Monetary Fund convention this past weekend, resulting in three arrests, one for assault of a police officer.
Occupy DC, along with the anti-capitalist "Anarchist Alliance D.C. Network," pulled down barricades and stormed several hotels where delegates were staying, according to wnd.com. Their Facebook page advertised the "event" by declaring, "On April 19th through 22nd, a broad coalition of activist groups will take the streets to protest the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the economic, social and environmental harm caused by the global capitalist system."
According to the local news, "One man was charged with crossing a police line just before 3 a.m. Saturday. Another man was charged with blocking passage, and a third person, a woman, was charged with assault on a police officer." No further details regarding the assault were released. Hopefully, the police officer is okay.
A video of the commotion was posted on YouTube, which shows the occupiers with Anarchy signs, and some hiding their faces with bandannas, appearing to be escorted out of the Washington Circle Hotel by police. They are screaming and acting like morons, yelling "F**k the Police" and "You're F**ked up!" while it appeared that people who may have been employees or guests could not enter the hotel during the chaos.
The Occupy Wall Street Movement needs to strongly condemn violence. The restraint the police officers show is legend; they should be commended for keeping the people at the hotel safe, as well as for their amazing ability to keep their cool in the face of people screaming at them.
