Mega Millions Lottery Winners May 4, 2012

According to the official Mega Millions website, one winner purchased the winning ticket from the Illinois Lottery. The ticket was worth $118,000,000 if the Illinois Mega Millions winner wants to take the annuity option which would be paid out in 26 annual payments. If the Illinois lottery winner wants all the money up front, he or she can take the one-time cash option which would be approximately $86,000,000. Of course, both these prize amounts are before state and federal taxes which could amount to one-third of the total jackpot—give or take a few dollars!

There were nine (1) other high-tier winners in Friday's game that matched five out of six Mega Millions winning numbers, but not the Mega Ball number. Two (2) Match 5 + 0 winners purchased winning tickets from the California Lottery and will win $209,562 each due to their pari-mutuel prize guidelines. Two (2) additional second-tier winners were from Illinois, and one each from Kentucky, New York, Ohio, Tennessee and Washington. The prize amounts for these lottery winners are $250,000 each.

There were also fifty-six (56) Match 4 + 1 winners for $10,000 each. If any of these lottery winners also purchased Megaplier tickets for this drawing, their prize winnings will instantly increase to $40,000 instead. That's not a bad deal for an extra dollar!

When is the Next Mega Millions drawing?

The next Mega Millions drawing is May 8, 2012 at 11:00pm ET. Because someone won the jackpot last night, Tuesday's estimated jackpot will be reset to $12,000,000 annuity, or $8,00,000 cash-value before taxes. Mega Millions winning numbers are drawn Tuesday and Friday evenings at WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia. Tickets are sold in 42 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
