A series of Super Moon 2012 photos have been revealed online from May 5th to show off the amazingly bright and large full moon that made its presence known. The pictures come from around the world from Saturday's occurrence showing the moon's captivating appearance everywhere from Rio de Janeiro to Russia to Greece!
A series of 11 pictures total was unveiled just hours ago by The Associated Press. Several of them show the moon illuminating a landmark statue, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil. Another shows fishermen in Florida out in the water casting lines in Bal Harbour under the bright moonlight. Another spectacular photo shows the moon rising behind the Temple of Poseidon located in Athens. It definitely must have been a sight to witness in person!
According to AP's report, this Saturday, May 5th featured the moon getting the closest it will to the Earth during the entire year 2012. It was about 15,000 miles closer than average. Due to its proximity, the moon also looked much larger than usual, approximately 14% to be exact. Hopefully many readers here were able to witness this 2012 phenomenon known as the Super Moon as well, without the incidence of clouds. It certainly made for an impressive sight and photo opportunity worldwide!
