The Heartland Institute has bowed to pressure from benefactors, and removed the controversial Chicago Unabomber billboard, which compared Ted Kaczynski to global warming alarmists.
The existence of climate change is indisputable, but Americans can't seem to have an adult discussion about the issue. There is no real proof of anthropogenic warming, but the eco-nuts are incapable of admitting they are simply wrong. Most likely, the rise in temperatures has been caused by the natural vicissitudes of the global climate.
"I still believe in global warming. Do you?" a quote, attributed to Kaczynski, appeared next to his mug shot on the sign.
The Heartland Institute, which bills itself as a "conservative think tank," is the group behind the Unabomber billboard, as well as other ads featuring Osama bin Laden, Charles Manson, and Fidel Castro.
Kaczynski did, in fact, have liberal views on the environment. Police discovered a copy of Al Gore's Earth in the Balance in the terrorist's Montana hovel.
But, there's no need for climate change to be such a black-and-white issue. Americans need to engage each other on this issue without resorting to name-calling.
The Unabomber billboard first appeared along the Eisenhower Expressway Thursday, and was withdrawn within 24 hours.
