For the second time, Brazilian Christian Mozer Rhian Oliveira tackled a criminal, resulting in an arrest. Last week, Oliveira noticed a man trying to rob a Chinese woman and leapt to action, hitting the thug with his umbrella. Unfortunately, the thief had friends who appeared to chase Oliveira into a building and ultimately battered him with an iron bar while about 50 witnesses simply watched it happen.
Last year in the same location, Oliveira "prevented an assault", and the criminal was taken to jail. Oliveira was "baffled" that nobody tried to intervene. When asked why he helped the woman he did not know, he said, "I am a Christian and I learned about loving my neighbor." Oliveira encouraged Chinese citizens to reduce such incidents by helping their neighbors. He feels that in China, "there is a lack of solidarity," as reported by the Christian Post.
Perhaps people are just "stunned" in such a situation, preventing them from taking quick action. Hopefully this story will inspire others to jump in when help is needed.
Why Don't People Help?
This story is reminiscent of last year's tragic story of a toddler who was run over by a car (twice) as 18 people just walked past her. The child ultimately died. Some recent crimes where onlookers watched a crime take place or worse, participated, include an incident in Baltimore, where a tourist was assaulted, robbed and stripped naked, or the case of Nick Stokes, who was dragged out of his car and stabbed while others watched, and many other similar stories. Hopefully people can learn to love one another and to help when thugs attack.

Jim, and I am sure you are a better man for it ;-)
Also as the older boy not only don't bully but don't allow anyone else to be bullied. That has carried over to adulthood.
