Apparently the truth hurts, or at least stings a bit too much for TED University conference website, which refused to publish 'Tax the Rich,' a talk by investor Nick Hanauer. The TED website is known for short presentations of creative ideas.
Once again, politics gets in the way of common sense and anything other than 'business as usual.'
Hanauer's well-received talk never made it to the TED website, according to Gawker.com because TED Curator Chris Anderson said the talk "comes down firmly on the side of one party." Gawker quotes from emails sent by Anderson, "We're in the middle of an election year in the US...TED is nonpartisan and is fighting a constant battle with TEDx organizers to respect that principle."
The sticking point is Hanauer assertion that "rich business people like me don't create jobs," but rather it's the middle class consumers who fuel business growth and subsequent job creation by spending their hard-earned money on stuff, Gawker notes.
Hanauer has observed how the U.S. economy works, and formed his opinion, with the business savvy and experience to back it up. His opinion is the truth as he knows it.
Censoring Hanauer's opinion for some so-called effort at political fairness hobbles discussion of U.S. economic policy.
Listening to Hanauer's five-minute TED talk is time well spent.
