Marvel Comics recently found inspiration from a little boy who was hearing impaired in New Hampshire. After sending him a comic book featuring Hawkeye of "The Avengers," they created a new superhero inspired by the 4-year-old.
The story comes from Salem, New Hampshire, home of Anthony Smith. According to Ozarksfirst, he has hearing loss on his left side, and no hearing on his right side. He regularly is required to wear a blue hearing aid to school which his mother refers to as "blue ear."
One day he told his mother "superheroes don't wear blue ears" when she asked him to put in his hearing aid before school. His mom tried to persuade him that superheroes use hearing aids, but she had to go a step further and emailed Marvel Comics in NYC for a definitive answer.
Marvel responded by sending a comic drawing featuring Hawkeye, one of The Avengers superheroes. In the comic, Hawkeye lost his hearing. That particular comic book superhero captivated Anthony, according to his mother.
From there, the people at Marvel Comics were inspired to create a brand new hero called "Blue Ear." The drawing they sent Anthony included the caption, "Thanks to my listening device, I hear someone in trouble." Marvel soon sent another drawing which showed Blue Ear with Hawkeye as superheroes together.
Anthony now proudly wears his hearing aid, according to the story, and his grandfather, Senator Lou D'Allesandro was touched by it all. He said:
"This is a feel good moment, this is a feel good story and we've got to get the world to recognize that."
It's truly inspirational that the people at Marvel Comics would go the extra mile to encourage a child to use his hearing device. It goes to show they aren't just about making money drawing superheroes and selling movies, but are also about doing some good for the world around us. Hats off to Marvel, Hawkeye, and Blue Ear for making this world a better place!
