Is the zombie apocalypse beginning? While the idea sounds like it is straight out of a science fiction film, many people are actually buying into the once seemingly ridiculous scenario, but they have good reason!
Lately, an uncomfortable amount of cases involving humans eating other humans have emerged. Up until recently, these stories were less wide spread. Of course, they were not completely unheard of, though, the most infamous story being that of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, which came to light in 1991. Now, over two decades later, more and more cannibalistic stories are emerging, making the general public concerned.
In fact, talk about a zombie apocalypse has become so widespread that the Huffington Post reached out to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for some clarification on the existence status of zombies. While the CDC does indeed have a page dedicated to zombie preparedness, they admit that the beings probably don't exist.
The CDC told the Huffington Post, "CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms)."
Will the CDC's statement help people sleep any better at night? Maybe, but they are not completely ruling out that there isn't a virus causing this; they are simply confirming that there is no known virus. Late last year, a report was published about a biologist who had discovered a large amount of previously unknown viruses. Furthermore, it was unclear how these viruses could impact human health. With such a large concentration of unknown viruses that could impact a person's health negatively, is it possible that there is just one that could cause a human to go cannibalistic?
If there is, the CDC doesn't know about it. However, there are also those who believe the government is simply hiding the truth. What do you think? Is the zombie apocalypse here?
