One man is being hailed a hero in the aftermath of the Seattle shooting spree that happened earlier this week. When a gunman walked into the Café Racer and began opening fire on unsuspecting patrons, Lawrence Adams did what came natural. He refused to run or hide under the table. Instead, he did whatever he could to save as many lives as he could.
Lawrence describes what happened on that fateful day, "I hear the pop, pop, and people scrambling. I couldn't make sense of it. I didn't expect the gun to be that quiet. I thought 'this is really happening.'' Instead of running for cover, Lawrence says he grabbed the first weapon he saw—a bar stool. "I just threw the frigging stool at him, legs first."
He didn't stop with just one stool. He kept throwing them at the gunman and ultimately putting his life on the line. Assistant Police Chief, Jim Pugel, explains that despite the attacker aiming at Lawrence, the humble hero kept tossing bar stools at him. Pugel says, "During that time, two or possibly three, people made their escape. He saved three lives."
Lawrence has been touched by acts of unnecessary violence before, and had already vowed never to cower. "My brother died in the World Trade Center. I promised myself, if something like this ever happened, I would never hide under a table." His selfless act during the horrific Seattle shooting allowed at least three people to go on with their lives. Lawrence Adams did not start his day out with the intentions of becoming a hero, but in one split-second decision, he chose to protect the lives of those around him, which makes him a hero in any book.
