An angry Connecticut mother who, on June 6th, entered a school and scared the Elementary school students receives several court charges and sparks intense debate.
Natasha Braithwaite was furious with the school officials at Bielfield Elementary School in Middletown, Connecticut when she learned that the unruly behavior of her daughter, who is a student there, resulted in her being suspended from using the bus system for the rest of the school year. Braithwaite did not have a motor vehicle and could not offer transportation for her daughter.
After first consulting with the school monitor, who stood firm on the decision, Braithwaite arrived at the front desk of the school and proceeded to yell loudly at the receptionist. The receptionist left Braithwaite in the school's front office and went to alert the principal to the situation.
Upon the receptionist's return, Braithwaite had decided to take her daughter out of the school and was on her way out of the office and down the hall to search for her.
"Don't you tell me I can't take my child," Braithwaite yelled as an answer to the receptionist's concerns. She was yelling and making a scene as she continued down the hall until she finally entered a classroom of 17 fifth grade students. The students reported that the encounter had scared them when asked about the incident later on.
The angry Connecticut mother then returned to the receptionist's office who informed her that the principal had a scheduled meeting and was unavailable. Upon receiving this news, Braithwaite rushed past her towards the principal's office, entered and proceeded to show the principal the same unpleasantness in the form of yelling, banging her fists on the table, and upending a chair.
Braithwaite stayed in the principal's office. The receptionist informed her that the police were responding to the situation. She then left the school on foot and was soon detained by police who reported that although initially denying their claims, she became incredibly angry when placed under arrest.
Braithwaite received a misdemeanor summons and a second degree breach of peace from Middlesex County Court.
This incident has sparked debate on the article response forums about the influence that Braithwaite has on her daughter. The debate has gone so far as to attribute the first event, her daughter's suspension from school bus services, to unruly behavior acquired from being in Braithwaite's volatile influence.
One poster offers a word of hope, however, effective when Braithwaite's behavior led her to encounters with the police.
"Maybe she (the daughter) will learn from her mother's legal troubles."
