Rodney King spent plenty of time with Dr. Drew Pinsky trying to work through his addictions. Monday Dr. Drew spoke out about King's death, and his sadness was evident. Calling Mr. King a "misunderstood, sweet man," the celebrity doctor explained that his inner demons had ahold of him, making it difficult to shake old, destructive habits and addictions. Dr. Drew made a single statement that should remind the country that no matter what, King was a man, a father and someone who will be missed for an extremely long time. King's three daughters are devastated, according to the doctor.
Other doctors who worked with King during his stint on Celebrity Rehab also spoke of a tender, loving man who was extremely different from what his legacy dictated. The man so many remember from the early 1990s was just not who Rodney King had grown into. Just two months ago, the man these doctors speak of was quite apparent. King discussed where he was in life, saying he was happy to be alive.
Tears poured as the doctor made a prediction about what killed Rodney. The fear is that his addiction to alcohol ultimately led to a poor decision to go swimming at three in the morning. While it will be up to two months before an official cause of death is released, Dr. Drew and his coworkers are likely correct in their guesses. Sadly some demons just cannot be overcome.
