Losing a child is bad enough, but having a child ripped from your life at the hands of a drunk driver is unthinkable. Last June, Loretta Robinson's nightmare began after she received a phone call informing her of her oldest son's death. Justin Walker was killed when the car he was driving was hit by Anna Gonzalez. After more than a year, Gonzalez has finally been sentenced, but nothing can make up for the loss of a life.
To add insult to injury, Robinson has been left with the bills associated with the accident, which was in no way Justin's fault. The fault solely falls on Gonzalez's shoulders, but unfortunately, there is no way the woman will ever pay in a monetary sense. Gonzalez is an illegal alien who did not have a license at the time of the accident. Obviously, she couldn't. She was in the country illegally, but that is a whole other story.
Gonzalez was sentenced to a measly 17 years in prison for her selfish act. Although nothing could bring Justin back, it is horrific to think the mother of the deceased is being forced to pay the bills relating to the accident cleanup. Loretta Robinson expressed her anger and frustration at Gonzalez's sentencing. The grieving mother explains her ongoing heartbreak, "I had to pay for the vehicle removed and to clean up the street from Justin's blood on the ground."
The bills are hitting at a time when Robinson can hardly work due to the grief she has suffered. She is outraged, she is the one paying the cleanup costs because some idiot got behind the wheel drunk, and killed an innocent man. It is revolting to think Robinson would be billed for cleaning her son's blood from the street where he took his last breath. That is not okay, period. Robinson did get some money from a state fund to pay for her son's funeral and associated costs, but the rest has fallen on her shoulders.
In these situations, the state, city or county should foot the bill and sue the driver or even their families. Why should the family that already lost so much be forced to pay for the damages caused by a drunk driver?

It states about halfway down:

♦ Expenses related to going to court (lawyer, travel, etc.)
♦ "Pain and suffering"
