"I found Madeleine McCann's grave," says South African real estate developer Stephen Birch. Using a ground penetrating radar device to x-ray the ground, Birch believes he has located the remains of the missing girl.
Madeleine was 3 when she disappeared in May 2007, while on holiday with her parents in Portugal. Gerry and Kate McCann were having dinner with friends at a nearby restaurant when the adorable toddler vanished from their hotel room. There have been no real leads on her whereabouts since then.
Birch says, "All I want to do is solve the mystery and bring closure to her family...I've had the scans analyzed and they show digging, a void, and what could be human bones." He has spent over $30,000 on the equipment used to find the suspected remains, which he claims is not far from where she disappeared. Why the intense interest, Mr. Birch? That's a lot of money for just a gesture.
Pat Brown, criminal profiler, says she expects little to actually turn up from Birch's investigation, as she believes Madeleine is alive and living with a family who wanted a child. She says the property, which belong to ex-suspect Robert Murat, has already been searched and no evidence has been found. According to Brown, the best thing that could be done is for the McCann's to ask for the case to be reopened and returning, with their friends, to Portugal to allow Portuguese detectives to finish the investigation and eliminate the McCann's as suspects. Shouldn't they have done that already? It's been 5 years.
Hopefully, sometime soon, her whereabouts are discovered, whether alive or dead, just for the closure. How is it possible for someone to just disappear? Someone knows. You can't keep a secret like that forever.
