Residents of West New York, New Jersey, woke up Tuesday morning to find a six-inch carving of the Virgin Mary in the bark of a tree.
Word of the sighting soon spread, and hundreds of faithful have been visiting the tree ever since. Things have been so hectic in the New Jersey town that police had to put up barricades around the tree.
This not the first time something like this has happened. The New Jersey carving is similar to the Roman Catholic miracle known as Our Lady of Guadalupe. This is a vision of the virgin that appeared in Mexico.
My Fox NY reports that many of the believers think that the tree carving holds mystical powers, yet others think the carving is nothing more than the result of a broken branch.
No one is quite sure how long people will be visiting and praying to the carving, but the police will be keeping the area safe for residents and the believers.
Did the Virgin Mary visit New Jersey? Well, in these days of sightings of aliens and Big Foot, there's no reason to doubt that it did happen.
