After the shooting of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman may have thought claiming self-defense would be the end of the situation. However, things have become much more complicated for Zimmerman, who is awaiting trial on murder charges.
A woman has come forward claiming that she had been sexually molested by Zimmerman over a ten-year period. The woman, only identified as Witness 9, said the abuse began when she was six and Zimmerman was eight and said that the assaults ended when she was sixteen. Not only does she claim she was molested, she also says Zimmerman and his family are racist, saying they, "don't like black people if they don't act like white people. They like black people if they act white."
Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara tried to block the release of Witness 9's statement, but it was released anyway at the urging of several media outlets. Since Witness 9 didn't see the shooting, it's doubtful prosecutors will put her on the stand. But what a character witness she could make.
Some people could argue that Witness 9 is only speaking out for the publicity. However she has not released her real name and hasn't spoken to the media directly. It can take years for a victim of sexual abuse to speak out against her attacker. Why blame the victim?
