Anaheim police fired beanbag rounds at women and children Saturday during a riot over the fatal shooting of an unarmed man.
When officers inspected the scene of the shooting of 24-year-old Manuel Diaz, they were met with an irate crowd. Anaheim, the home to Disneyland, is located in Orange County, CA.
The civilians began rioting, shouting and throwing bottles at the officers. Several of the rioters were detained, but the crowd kept advancing, and were met with tear gas and beanbag bullets. You can view the mayhem here.
This part of California is plagued with gang violence, so you can understand the frustration of the police. Many officers are just trying to do their jobs. But, there is no excuse for firing anything into a crowd which includes young children.
In addition, the police are obviously lying when they said the police dog "escaped" from a squad car and ran into the fray. Since when do dogs open squad car doors?
The people were upset because this shooting was the second by cops in as many days. More protests followed Sunday at Anaheim police headquarters during a press conference about the unrest.![]()
