Rumor has it a body found on an Interstate 20 median belongs to missing teen Hailey Dunn. The decomposed body was found by Texas Department of Transportation around 11 am on Thursday.
Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda said, "We're not going to make any assumptions that it is or is not. I don't think it's fair to the family or the community to constantly speculate whether it is Hailey or not."
Hailey disappeared from her Colorado City, Texas, home on December 27, 2010. According to her mother's boyfriend, she left the home to go to a friend's for a sleepover, but according to that friend, not only did Hailey never arrive, she wasn't even aware Hailey was coming.
So for a year and a half, this teenager has just been missing. No new leads, only one suspect. The mother's boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, has been endlessly questioned, had his property searched, and has taken a polygraph, and still, no charges. However, police aren't telling what they may have found in the search, nor are they releasing the results of the polygraph. What's holding up the arrest? Maybe they were just waiting for the body.
The only thing officially released relevant to the body is that the death is being investigated as a homicide. The body was sent to Medical Examiner's office in Lubbock, Texas, for an autopsy. Soon, the identity of the body will be known and perhaps her murderer will be punished.
A reward for $15,000 is being offered for information leading to Hailey's whereabouts. What kind of people actually take this reward? Horrible. If you know something, tell someone. That's someone's child.

This is not a news story. It is speculation or fantast. There are no sources cited.
It is, to be concise, crap.
And there are families and advocates out there who are already stressed out.
Pull this story down. There is nothing here beyond someone with an imagination, a keyboard and Internet access.

You have no sources. None. Right?
People working the case over the last 19 months on Facebook and elsewhere pretty much think this is an abusive and uninformed post.
If ya got sources, bring 'em. For now you're freaking out families and advocates.
Please stop screwing with the family.

"On Thursday, NewsWest 9 spoke with Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda about rumors of the body being missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn."
"We're not going to make any assumptions that it is or is not. I don't think it's fair to the family or the community to constantly speculate whether it is Hailey or not," Frieda said.
Is not a source. It is speculation. The link you sent was http://www.newswest9.com/story/19124196/body-found-on-interstate-20-in-nolan-county
And there is nothing conclusive there.
OK, so now let's deal in facts. 1) The law enforcement official running this investigation has already confirmed this story is nothing but a rumor. 2) The writer herself (that's you, Jessica!) sent an apology last night with the following statement, " Guess I was thinking more about my paycheck than the family. My apologies to the family."
Since you're here defending your factless, rumor-supported article, I thought someone should share the apology you issued, so everyone has the FACTS. The family is furious about this "rumor", and wants the story removed. They have made contact with your corporate office to have it deleted.
Oh, and re-writing a story from a news outlet is not reporting. It's actually called plagarism. Just an FYI.
