The Chick-fil-A in Huntsville, Alabama reports a booming business despite the controversy over the owner's "shocking" support of traditional marriage. Many people have been going out of their way to lend their support to the popular chicken franchise.
Apparently, first amendment rights and religious tolerance does not mean much if one's position happens to be for traditional marriage.
Interestingly, the belief that marriage should be between one man and one woman has recently become a "homophobic" bigoted stance; yet when President Obama held this very same position, (before he "evolved") there was no discussion in the mainstream media four short years ago about how the president was "anti-gay".
The local news in Huntsville reports that "Many said they like the restaurant and came to support Cathy's beliefs, particularly after the broad criticism they've garnered." After the ridiculous backlash from some groups to boycott Chick-fil-A, in addition to some even trying to block the franchise from operating in their respective towns, all of the publicity most likely will not hurt business.
In Huntsville, Alabama, at least, the boycotts and bullying are having the opposite effect. Business is booming.

Chick-Fil-A's first amendment rights have not been violated in any way. Freedom of speech doesn't mean "freedom from criticism." The only way Cathy's freedom of speech would be violated would be if the government banned him from speaking, which it obviously has not. I simply don't understand why today's conservatives, who claim to be so fond of the Constitution, have so little understanding of one of its basic precepts.
As for religious tolerance, Dan Cathy has given money in his company's name to Exodus International, a group which traveled to Uganda and encouraged legislators there to draft a bill which would make homosexuality a crime punishable by death. That's not being in favor of traditional marriage. That's hiding behind the Bible while advocating murder. Do you really expect reasonable people to tolerate that?
And of course chick-fil-a business is booming in H-vill, Alabama. It's the bible belt. I'm from there. Most of the people I know there have callouses on their knuckles.
What really saddens me is that I know for a fact that many in this country (and probably many who will comment in support of this author's article) are probably not bothered at all by a law which would call for gays to be executed. I've come across a number of people here in the south who have said, with no amount of shame, that they would kill a "f*g" if they ever met one.

Renee, that is extremely offensive. Perhaps you can rethink that one. Or at least familiarize yourself with my articles before you say something like that.

That's not being in favor of traditional marriage. I will look into that and if it is true, I will be the first one to condemn it. In the meantime, I am only focused here on Cathy's support of traditional marriage.
Most of the people I know there have callouses on their knuckles. Chelsea, what does that mean?
Jeanne, their actions make me sick. Which actions?

Zinjanthropus, Hon. Piltdown. Australo-Pithecus. Cave Man. She of the high forehead...you know, like the commenter.
Means the bigoted speech of someone who is faaaarr above us on the "evolutionary" Scale, Doll.
Check that; not at all.
This man did not have freedom of speech, if people are calling for a boycott to
hurt his business especially at a time of high unemployment... This company does alot of good for the community, we have one here, they are the first to feed the volunteers, fireman, police, etc... I think the community that does not allow them to locate there is hurting their people..
The bias needs to be exposed and people need to just help one another and love and accept one another. Our country is a haven for many gay people, who come here from Africa and are blessedly relieved at the acceptance they are shown. This is true, this is a fact.
By the way, another loooong car ride yesterday - I heard four separate traffic updates warning of congestion around Chick-Fil-A's. If you were in the car with me, you would have heard a "WOOHOO"!
On the subject of rights - I have not been able to find any connection between marriage... hetero, homo or otherwise, listed anywhere in the US Constitution. This is a subject that has always been cared for by the individual states; they've always written their own marriage laws since day one of this country.
But back to the tolerance thing... the anger and intolerance displayed so regularly against anyone or any business that dares to hold an opinion that does not follow in lock step with gay marriage, is today quite apparent. And so while I personally do not have any issues against gay marriage itself, in any way, I will not agree to take part in the intolerance and vitriol...
... which leads this full circle now and why I am commenting.
On the contrary. Dan Cathy donated money in Chick-Fil-A's name to groups which lobbied in Pennsylvania to create a law which would allow for discrimination based on sexual orientation.
That's more than disagreeing. That's using their money to try to legalize discrimination against homosexuals.
Despite the fact that I am incredibly liberal, I have no problem with Dan Cathy saying that he opposes gay marriage. I hate no right to tell him what his opinion ought to be on that subject. If that's how he interprets his religion then that's his business. But when he uses his company's money to try to put that belief into law then he becomes fair game for criticism.
Regarding tolerance: I find the intolerance towards homosexuals by christian conservatives to be immoral. Comments like yours are patently absurd. Why would I tolerate intolerance? I don't tolerate discrimination based on skin color, or gender, or religion. Why would I tolerate discrimination based on sexual orientation?
Christianity is such an odd religion. Christians claim their religion is about love and peace, but you'd never know it based on their actions.
Your way of thinking is, thank god, dying out.
Would you mind quoting anything in my comment that displayed intolerance of anyone?
Thanks :)
Not preaching, just sharing my view, is all.
I'm outta here... too much negativity for coffee lol.
That's my view.
There is no "truth." There's life. The sooner you realize that the better for you.
I believe that there are things in this world which should never be tolerated, and hatred for an entire group of people is one of them. Absolutely, that is why I am surprised that you an your friends hate Christians, while promoting "tolerance".
This is what allows for hateful actions against others. What hateful actions?
And that is why you're confused...
Jeanne - what are the hateful actions you have twice referred to?
Truth.
Its another case of trying to force someones agenda on everyone else and then crying that the religious do this all the time.. Its another case of double standards...
I dont believe in gay marriage but I have several male gay friends and some of them are married to each other... I think that they make better friends than my girlfriends... They have cleaner places and I could trust them with my life but we are HONETST with each other and know my feelings but I respect theirs... This is called TOLERENCE.... SOMETHING that is not being shown to this company... Those that want to boycott are acting like a bunch of whiny kids who didnt get their way...People need to grow up...We are ALL different and have many points of views, this is what makes us who we are .... GOD created us to have free will and to think... Then when someone does this, its a big bad thing...If all I had to do was to worry about what someone said, I would be a very happy person....We need to harness our energy and put it into some good for mankind..Like feeding the hungry, finding the homeless some shelter... etc.. NOT cry about what someone said about their feelings ....
Rubbish. The FACT is, the younger, more indoctrinated, and those lacking of Depth and Wisdom are more likely to be Leftists.
"It's to do with critical thinking skills and an awareness of the world around you, and being less likely to be swayed by nationalist, religious, or nativist propaganda." - Shah
B.S. It is to do with foolish idealism. It is to do with indoctrination by University, School, and Society. It is to do with a lack of Wisdom. It is to do with a lack of knowledge, Values, and Depth.
"tolerance."
"change."
"discrimination."
"acceptance."
"diversity."
These are all meaningless and irrelevant...and severely lacking of Depth.
"Scott seems woefully unaware of any number of studies which show that the more educated a person is the more likely they are to be liberal." Why do I have a strong feeling that any such study was conducted by a liberal?
It is to do with indoctrination by University, School, and Society. ding ding ding! You win a prize!!! (crackers)
Everyone has the right to their own beliefs and opinions. We sure pass them around here at Gather. The liberals forgot that Obama himself was all for traditional marriage until he had an "oh my" moment related to losing votes. People still voted for him, despite that stance. Doesn't it seem a bit disingenuous?
I am not convinced that Chick Fil A discriminates against employees or customers or that the donate to anyone that does.
If I see that they do, I will be the first to say something.
One thing Ivy league actually taught me, that it is all about how to convince the public square. These elites will tell people anything, regardless if it is blatantly false to get public opinion - take the new political trend of planting "seeds" in people's heads, whether they are true or not. "Mitt Romney may be a felon, he may have done something illegal, etc." How pathetic that any useful idiot falls for that.
"How pathetic that any useful idiot falls for that." - Renee
Careful!...your brilliance is showing ;)
He-he...I want my crackers. I won them, and legitimately!
A cool link!!
If your wife tells you one morning that she is pregnant, what is your response?
Do you ask your wife........."Do you think it will be a baby?"
I often wonder how these people can make themselves say some of the things they say to defend their position.
I also find it very funny that these so-called Christian groups, who proclaim their distaste for abortion until they're blue in the face, also support murdering homosexuals.
Face it. You don't care about fetuses, you care about controlling women. It angers you to no end that you can't make women obey you. You can't make them stay home and pump out babies until they die. That probably really ticks you off doesn't it? Judging by your profile you seem to embrace a terrifyingly fascist form of Christianity. Usually men like you just hate women, and since religion is an inherently anti-woman concept, you fall further and further into increasingly strict interpretations of it.
Unsurprising, really.
Shah engaged in a serious bit of Projection.
Really weird...
Thanks for giving me a good laugh, I needed that.
Any more hilarious jokes you want to tell?
"If only you had the ability to bear children, so that someone could force you to go through with a pregnancy. I'm sure you'd find it terribly enjoyable."
NEWS FLASH! Pregnancy is not caused by humidity or stress...It is not like it accidentally happens. Taking the life of a child cannot be justified by the suggestion that it may present an inconvenience to you.
I had a loooong drive today...I was actually thinking about some of the comments about teens and sex and the attitude that it is going to happen anyway...it just seems like the opposite of instilling values.
I am not saying parents should be blind, and obviously they should be approachable on any concerns about sex that their kids may have. But there are some who advocate encouraging kids to have sex. Some actually demonize people who teach abstinence or "waiting" to have sex. Studies show that it works.
So, kids are not taught to be responsible with sex, and then when they get pregnant, they don't even need to tell their parents that they are getting an abortion. So now they have this huge life decision, made without the guidance of their families, then, they have an abortion, something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives, and a new secret to hide from their families - how is this good for anyone?
As I read the comments, there is a PSA, with photos of "happy Girls," flashing at the Margin:
"Take Charge of Your Sexual Health." Click Here for Clinic locations...how ironic...and maddening. The GOAL: to undermine Parents, PERIOD...as I have previously warned.
The crucial subjects of Sexuality and personal Health are the matter of Families, Parents, and their Children. That there are "Ad's" such as this, and that Schools, Teachers and Gov have their beak into any Private Family matters should anger every single American...particularly, Parents.
What would you know about "sentient Life?" Let me explain something to you...
That cannot be said or taught often enough.
"Fetuses aren't sentient life." Double duh
LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am soooo happy to see you and Vic's statement is classic. Stick around for awhile, will ya?
It always claims victory right after getting the snot kicked out of itself. It uses sources that are huge Obama/democommiRAT supporters and campaign contributors and calls them un-biased. I guess the leftards have created a new definition for "un-biased".
'Nature' in this context is a man-woman relationship.
The implication in verse 26 is that women were engaged in lesbianism.
In 1 Cor 6:9, "abusers of themselves with mankind" is translated from the Greek word "Arsenokoites" which is a compound word 'Arsen' meaning male, or men, and 'koites' literally meaning couch or bed, but generally with the connotation meaning a 'marriage bed' or sex. Male-male sex is what is meant, and it's listed as a sin.
To be effeminate is also listed as a sin.
But, to answer the question, yes, the sin of homosexuality applies both to men and women.
(1 Cor 2:14) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
In this context 'nature' or 'natural' is our innate desires and preferences. This is the way that people use the phrase 'it's in my nature.'
If a behavior or 'orientation' is in our 'nature,' that doesn't make it right. If someone is only turned on by children, he is not innocent because that's his 'sexual orientation.' We should not allow people to marry their dogs or cats because that's what feels natural to them, and it makes them happy. An addict is not innocent if he/she indulges their nature and stays drunk or high.
Although God says in the bible, man shall not lay down with man, does this apply to women as well or just men? YES
EAT MORE Chick-Fil-A CHICKEN!!
100 MORE DAYS!!!
Obama can "evolve" from being a FAUX president to a real person behind bars.
...let's see ...identity theft, SS fraud, illegal/unconstitutional EO's, FAST AND FURIOUS...
Gay men are always speaking up and stating how supportive they are, as it applies to women.
"Here is my question."
Is there any other group in our society, who make their statements more clearly with their personal choices than gay men, that women are not good enough for them?
I am not mean spirited...What did I say that was untrue?
"Are men good enough for you Vic? Does the fact that you don't have sex with them make you anti-man? If you don't have sex with men are you unsupported of other men?"
The truth is that our world is blessed to have all of these wonderful women to be a part of it, and those types of questions just never enter my mind.
That being said, it would be soooo awesome if we could try to understand each other. But, perhaps that is my personal weird dream.
I was speaking of the gay men, so that is all you saw, and you assume that my opinion only applies to gay men. I am opposed to the gay lifestyle, period, and yes, that include lesbians. You are speaking of my lack of acceptance of something that I do not approve of at all, and the truth is that you, or no one else gets to decide that for me.
I am neither mean-spirited nor prejudiced. I am merely speaking against what you are so willing to defend. I do not approve of the homosexual lifestyle. What part of that is confusing to you? It is not based on hatred; it is based on the foundation of my faith, and I do not compromise when it comes to that foundation. It is neither your decision, nor even your business as to my convictions based on my faith, nor will I change to avoid conflict or disapproval from you or anyone else.
Thank you, Vic.
Follow this carefully. I do not hate gay people, nor will you find evidence that will lead you to believe otherwise, based on my words. With my faith, I am not allowed to judge others, nor do I, in the true sense of the word, judgment. I do not treat anyone in the gay community any different because they are gay, and yes, I do have friends who are gay. With my faith, free will is allowed, and that free will is the choice of the individual, and it is not my place to question the use of that free will as being not allowed. But my faith does not allow for compromise, and that means that even if I do not place judgment on someone, or treat him or her any differently, I still am not to accept what is a direct conflict with the foundation of my faith. I have not directly disrespected anyone, nor have I been mean spirited toward anyone. I am merely pointing out that I do not approve of the lifestyle. I do not try to convert anyone from that chosen path by forcing my personal faith upon them, nor am I allowed to force it upon anyone. If you wish to try to transform my personal thoughts into something ugly, then feel free to do so, but you will not only be wrong, but you will prove you are not nearly as intelligent as I thought you to be.
Chick-fil-A executive dies, liberals celebrate with hateful messages
"The phony Christians' God passed His/Her judgement, (sic)" wrote one commenter at CBS.
"That should teack (sic) the chicken bible pusher to keep a lid on it...ha ha," wrote another.
"LOL, must have been the HAND O' DA LORD that reached down and smitted him for his bigotry! The timing is WAY too much of a coincidence!! (sic)" exclaimed one commenter.
"Guess its Gods will. (sic) Huckabee and Santorum next on Aug. 1st. Yay!" commenter "jonnyhern" wrote at the Los Angeles Times, referencing a "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" that was set up by Huckabee.
"Am I the only one that thinks the irony of this is hilarious," one person wrote at ABC News.
"Tim" called it "Kharma," and asked: "Maybe Dan Cathy will go next?" He followed that message with a "smiley" expressing happiness.
"Jenny" asked: "Is their god trying to send a message?"
"Thank you God for taking that biggot from this world before his words can hurt any of your other children, (sic)" another person wrote at ABC.
"This is too funny. Satan has called his boy home," wrote "Don."
The Huffington Post reported the news "sparked an onslaught of Twitter responses, with many linking the official's passing to the fast food company's recent controversies."
