While America has spent the last 4 years engrossed in the Casey Anthony drama, the Drew Peterson saga may have slipped into the background. However, the 58-year-old former Chicago area police officer's trial for the murder of his ex-wife is set to begin Tuesday. He is charged with the 2004 death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, and remains under investigation for the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.
Savio was found naked and deceased in her dry bathtub on February 29th, 2004. The cause of death given by the coroner was drowning, coupled with a massive scalp laceration and small bruises. Police initially treated the scene as an accident and moved on.
But then, in 2007, Stacy Peterson spoke with an attorney about getting a divorce. When she spoke with her husband about this, she disappeared, leaving him and their two young children for another man, according to Peterson. She hasn't been seen or heard from since.
This led to the exhumation of Savio's remains, which were re-examined and cause of death was determined to be homicide made to look like an accident.
Wow, so far, this guy gets the World's Worst Husband Award. Remember that the next time you fight with your husband. Things could be so much worse. Imagine the fear that went through these woman's minds, both of them relatively young, with children.
The trial is set to last nearly a month, with the prosecution using statements made by both of the now deceased woman as evidence. The defense fought this because it denies the defendant the right to confront the witnesses against him. So, make sure this is correct. He doesn't want the prosecution to use statements made by the murdered woman because they aren't there to be cross-examined, but there would be no need for a murder trial if they were there. It's a vicious circle. Hmmm, that's too complicated and makes the brain hurt. You figure it out.

Funny how the ones that could have helped, can't because they were killed or disappeared....
Kind of a great irony in that.
