After Tom Daley received a cruel tweet about his Olympic performance, fans went crazy! Defending the celebrity status British diver, many tweets were sent his way in his defense and wishing him well.
The first tweet (that was heard around the world) came from a 17-year-old boy who has been arrested at a guest house in the Weymouth area on suspicion of malicious communications.
The boy tweeted that the Olympian (who is only 18 years old) let his father down after not winning a medal in his men's synchronised 10m platform diving event. Tom Daley's father passed away just last year from cancer. This hurtful tweet not only got the attention of the diver himself, but police took the social media communication very seriously.
According to the BBC, it is unsure whether the arrest came as a result of the first tweet to Daley or later conversations. Either way, it sounds like Great Britain has the right attitude when it comes to abusive language on social media websites like Twitter! They do not mess around.
