Shortly before the body of Mickey Shunick was discovered by investigators, Brandon Scott Lavergne was checked out of jail. Could this mean the suspect in her disappearance and murder caved? An inmate custody form obtained by media sources reveals that the man accused of killing Michaela and 1999 murder victim Lisa Pate had been checked out of captivity for several hours. He was checked out a little before 7:00 a.m., and then returned to his quarters again at around 3:30 p.m.
Keep in mind that investigators admitted that a credible "criminal source" led them to the rural and secluded cemetery where the remains believed to be Mickey Shunick were discovered. Putting two and two together isn't very difficult in this case. It seems rather obvious that Brandon Scott Lavergne led officials to the location of the missing Louisiana coed's body.
Earlier it was reported that Lavergne was given time to agree to a plea deal. He has/had until a couple of weeks before his next court date to decide upon the agreement. Could the plea agreement have been decided this week leading to the missing woman's discovery?
Prosecutors are intending on seeking the death penalty for Brandon Scott Lavergne, so it may not have been a plea deal issue at all. This is truly confusing and it would be interesting to find out just what led investigators to the grave in which Mickey's remains were buried.
Family of Mickey Shunick makes statement
The family spokesperson for the Shunick family has acknowledged that this is a time of hope for the family. He hopes that closure is received after the body is confirmed to match that of the missing woman. It's been a rough couple of months, and a lot of denial has been apparent during this case. With the latest updates that have been in the headlines, that denial should be receding, replaced with anxiety and grief. Watch the video here.
