Lauren Spierer is in the headlines again, but not because of the skull that was found in White River recently. Her name is being tied to a potential mass shooting attempt in Bloomington, but thankfully police arrested the nutjob! A 56-year-old Indianapolis man had at least two loaded semi-automatic handguns on his person along with a loaded shotgun in the trunk of his car. He also had a digital rangefinder of all things. He had been seen loitering outside of Kilroy's bar for several hours watching people going in and out of the establishment.
He was taken to the Bloomington Hospital for a mental health checkup and was left there for observation -- a 24-hour hold. Detectives also searched his home finding 48 more guns which included rifles, shotguns and pistols.
Since the man had a permit for his weapons he was not arrested, but it's possible that a mass shooting attempt was foiled when police approached him. However he kept talking about missing IU student Lauren Spierer. Lauren was at Killroy's bar the night she vanished over a year ago. He claimed to have met the missing Bloomington woman at a gun range a year before she vanished.
What's suspicious is that the skull being tested right now was found near Indianapolis, so it's strange that police didn't at least take him in for questioning regarding his strange behavior and interest in her case; especially in light of the recent Sikh temple and Aurora mass shootings.
