The man who murdered Lynn Jackenheimer was arrested last week after a month-long manhunt. It's a bittersweet thought to know that the man was apprehended alive, when in many cases these types of murderous cowards take their own lives only to be found later. Nonetheless, it will be determined whether he planned this murder or not and he will face the justice he deserves to face. To take an opinionated stance, he deserves the death penalty -- and in North Carolina, it's administered by lethal injection. Do you think Nate Summerfield is afraid of needles?
Lynn Jackenheimer was most likely scared senseless when the man who fathered one of her children reportedly stabbed and strangled her to death before dumping her garbage-bag-clad body in an abandoned lot in N.C. So true justice should be something that Summerfield fears -- and he apparently does fear it since he's alluded capture for a month.
He'll be facing a judge in North Carolina today, after being apprehended in Ohio last week. Will this be an arraignment? If so, will he plead guilty or not guilty in the death of Jackenheimer? Hopefully this is a quick trial that involves true justice and not a watered down sentence that lets this man back out among the living. He's a repeat abuser, a violent offender of women and a murderer. He doesn't deserve the mercy of the court.
There haven't been any new reports of his family seeking custody of the little boy he shared with Jackenheimer, but it's known that they filed to interfere with the current custody situation of the child -- who has always been around his older sister. It's a disregard to this child's psyche to attempt to rip him away from the only environment he is used to, especially after losing his mother so violently. Hopefully Nate Summerfield's disregard for human life wasn't inherited from those who deem it fit to take a child away from his comfort and maternal family.
