Shocking but true! Porn stars have a high rate of STDs, at least right now, and it's all thanks to one performer who doctored his test results. Back in July, a male porn movie actor was feeling ill; he went to his personal doctor and was diagnosed with syphilis. Adult Talent Managers agents Shy Love and Derek Hay say the performer worked three times using the altered doctors report. They're not releasing the man's name.
On Friday, The Los Angeles County Public Health Department reported that there were five cases of syphilis among porn performers. However, by Friday, they announced that there were now "less than [a] dozen" (several reports claim 9 cases) reported cases. The entertainers often have a higher rate of STDs because of having multiple partners, and apparently, an outbreak like this one isn't bad enough to bother with.
The porn industry usually doesn't shutdown unless there's a case of HIV, which happened in 2010 and 2011. They have enough filmed stuff to keep going until the porn stars crisis is over. But there are several media reports suggesting they will close down production of porn films until the crisis is over. Dr. Jonathan Fielding, Director of the LA Public Health Department, says that there were over 813 cases of syphilis in the county last year. HIV cases increase by an estimated 2-to-5-fold in patients with syphilis infection.
