Labor Day driving just got much more expensive thanks to Hurricane Isaac with gas prices rising as much as $4.49 per gallon in one part of the country. But the storm isn't to blame for gas prices rising before it came.
Fox News reports that the $4.49 gas prices on August 29 of 2012 exceeded the rate drivers paid back in August of 2008, when $3.67 per gallon was the going rate.
The climbing gasoline prices this week are impacted by the storm, of course, since some refineries did shut down their operations in advance of the storm—or taper them off somewhat.
But pump prices were on the rise before Isaac blew in and rose by 40 cents from July 1 through mid August.
During this economic climate and upcoming political presidential election, it would pay for the Obama administration to do everything in their power to reduce the cost Americans are paying at the pump if he wants to win re-election.
Otherwise it appears that, like the economy, things have only gotten worse at the gas pumps since Obama was elected, since he promised it would no longer be "business as usual" on his shift.

A promise is a promise. Unless you're in politics. :)
