Cyber-bullying is one the biggest issues facing us today, and everyone from celebrities to political figures are getting involved. However, one woman knows more about cyber-bullying than anyone, and she is taking a stand. Lizzie Velasquez, a woman born with a rare condition that doesn't allow her body to store any fat whatsoever, is being called the "ugliest woman in the world" by online cyber-bullies.
Online bullies are a different brand of coward than normal bullies, who you might find on a schoolyard or in the office. Cyber-bullies hide behind their internet connections, and say whatever they want, because there is no way for normal people to track them down and retaliate.
Velasquez was born without any adipose tissue, which means that her body will not store fat, and she cannot gain weight. This means that she is exceptionally skinny, weighing in at only around 55-60 pounds. The 23-year-old woman spoke to Dr. Drew about her disease and about the cyber-bullying, which she faces regularly. She told Dr. Drew, "I may have this outer exterior of people saying, 'She can handle everything, she's dealt with this for so long,' and to be honest, I'm human and of course these things are going to hurt."
Lizzie Velasquez wrote a book titled 'Be Beautiful, Be You' in which she tries to introduce herself to those who know nothing about her condition. It is very likely that Velasquez leads a very frustrating life, with people staring at her where ever she goes, but condition or not she is a smart and kind person. She is one of only three woman in the world with this condition.
