The man accused of killing Nicole Bennett will be facing trial in December, so here's to hoping he gets a speedy conviction. The June slaying of the 35-year-old Millsboro woman was horrific and unfair, and there are still many questions unanswered to add insult to injury on her family. Matthew Burton and his family say he's innocent, but to be frank he's the one with the past as a sex offender and the window of opportunity to commit this senseless crime.
Nicole Bennett was strangled and officials charged Matthew Burton with the crime. They believe the once-church-janitor took her, killed her and then discarded her body alongside a road in Whaleyville. His motive? Well, there really hasn't been a motive discussed in headlines much; other than she was "in the wrong place at the wrong time," and that this was a crime of opportunity. That paints a picture of Matthew Burton that makes him appear to be an opportunistic psychopath who targets women randomly. This makes him seem like a danger to society.
Hopefully the prosecution easily proves all of this. They have the body of the victim and they have other assorted pieces of evidence. If they believe he murdered her, then they should have strong reason. If he's convicted the case will have full closure.
