A mishap at the Philadelphia International Airport this weekend saw a gun discharged. Police say that a flight attendant was bringing a gun through security accidentally, when TSA agents found it and detained the woman. The employee had forgotten to take the weapon out of her purse before coming to work. In a time where more and more people carry weapons for personal protection, accidents like this are bound to happen.
According to CBS affiliate KYW, the incident happened just after 7:00AM, and the TSA agents called local police. A police officer was attempting to unload the gun when it was discharged, the bullet hitting the floor. No one was injured in the accidental shooting and the flight attendant had a valid permit, and the weapon was legally hers.
Police issued her a ticket for bringing the gun through Philadelphia International Airport security, and the police officer who discharged the gun will be retrained on how to handle weapons. The woman may not have deserved a ticket, since it was an accident, but the police officer in question certainly needs to learn how to handle weapons better, since a firearm is one of the primary tools police use everyday.
