If you are Jewish, you probably already know that as of sunset tonight, Yom Kipper 2012 will begin. The Jewish holiday, the most holy day in the religion, goes from sundown on Tuesday to sundown on Wednesday. This holiday is the Jewish day of atonement.
The Jewish people will fat from Tuesday to Wednesday, to purify both the body and the soul. While this fasting is for religious reasons, more and more research is pointing to bodies needs needing a rest such as fasting. While there is no research on soul cleansing, the Jewish people may be onto something.
Jews are supposed to take this day very seriously and truly ask forgiveness and mean it. This is probably something that people should do a whole lot more in life anyway, asking forgiveness from those that they have wronged, and trying to make amends. However, it would probably require more than just one day a year for some.
Regardless, if you are Jewish, Yom Kipper 2012 begins at sundown, and if you are not Jewish, you may want to think about some sort of atonement anyway, because they say confession is good for the soul.
