Guys, how much would it take for you to marry a lesbian? How does $65 million sound? That's the amount a Hong Kong billionaire is offering to the man who marries his gay daughter.

The marriage proposals have been pouring in from all over the world for Gigi Chao, the daughter of famed real estate tycoon Cecil Chao, after her father posted the incredible "marriage bounty" of HK$500 million in an effort to get her to marry a man. While that may sound insulting, Chao actually has no ill will against her father for his unusual move.
"I wasn't angry at all. I was really quite touched, very touched and very [...] moved," she said. "It's really his way of saying, 'Baby girl, I love you.'"
While Hong Kong is in many ways a sophisticated, world-class city, it's still got a way to go when it comes to fully embracing all sexual orientations. It finally decriminalized homosexuality in 1991, but same-sex marriages aren't yet recognized there. (Hong Kong is still way ahead of mainland China, where homosexuality was still classified as a mental disorder until 2001.)
As much as he loves Gigi and wants the best for her, Chao's father is clearly in a bit of denial about having an openly gay daughter. Gigi, 33, says that he's okay with the idea of her being a lesbian as an "in-the-closet lifestyle choice," but he has a harder time accepting it as a "social statement." For better or worse, she and her father are very high-profile people whose personal lives are eagerly followed by the public.
What prompted his offer was Gigi's recent revelation that she and her long-term girlfriend had married with a church blessing in France last April. Her father insists she's still single and available—which, in the eyes of Hong Kong, she technically is.
But don't bother joining the long line of suitors hoping to become her rich husband. Gigi, a bit of a business tycoon herself, is taking in all the proposals with a good sense of humor. But she obviously considers herself a happily married woman, as well she should. Tough luck, guys!
