Fans of Aishwarya Rai may soon have a new film to look forward to. A source told the Times of India that Aishwarya has agreed to star in Mani Ratnam's adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier's novel Rebecca and that the film will hit theaters in 2014.
So is it true? There have been so many rumors regarding Aish's comeback that it's hard to determine what's fact and what's fantasy. However the TOI source seems fairly detailed and confident.
"Ash and Ratnam go back a long way. Her cinematic debut, Iruvar in 1997 was directed by him. They worked again ten years later in Guru. The same year she got married. They again worked in 2010 in Raavan. Whenever Ratnam has offered Ash a role or a script she has always respected it. This time too, it was the same."
Rebecca (which has been adapted for the Indian screen twice before) is about a woman who lives constantly in the shadow of her husband's first wife. Hopefully this comeback rumor is true, because this is the kind of interesting and dark role that could really suit Aishwarya (and give her a chance to show off her acting chops, rather than be, as so many roles for women these days are, just a pretty face).
