While searching for April Jones, British officials have arrested a man for making classless jokes about the missing five-year-old girl, but this is absolutely stupid. Sure, the UK doesn't have the freedom of speech that the U.S. has, but don't detectives have more pressing issues at hand than hassling people who are simply making "jokes" about sensitive issues?
Emotions are running high, and that's to be expected. Little April has been missing for nearly a week and it's been established by officials that she was most likely murdered within hours of her disappearance. Yet they've not been able to locate her remains. Meanwhile, the man believed responsible for the crime has been formally charged, and a community is in a state of mourning.
It's understandable that everyone is running on high anxiety during the search for April Jones, but the arrest of this Facebook troll is ridiculous and is nothing more but an exercise in power over the freedom and liberty of another person—who really isn't even connected to the disappearance of the child. The arrest of this guy only took time, attention and manpower away from the search for April and the investigation into her so-called murder. Good going, guys.
