The Amanda Todd memorial service date and place was announced on Thursday by the bully victim's family.
The memorial service for the girl just shy of her sweet 16 birthday will be held at Citadel middle school in Port Coquitlam on Nov. 17, which is close to the 15-year-old's own birthday according to the Vancouver Sun.
Todd's family wants her memorial to be a celebration of her life, so they plan to go with the Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services, wich offers a family the ability to put a loved one to rest without the aid of a church service.
The Alternatives website says the company recognizes that "some families without any religious affiliation feel out of sync with a formal service," so they seek to offer them an alternative.
The Celebration of Life package costs almost $2,000 and includes providing the family with all the arrangement responsibility from consulting with them in the family home—and taking custody of the loved one's remains, to delivering cremated remains and a death certificate to the family afterward.
Given all that the family of Amanda Todd have endured the past three years, and then their loved one's suicide death, it has to be a relief to have someone else deal with some arrangements for their wounded family.
Interestingly, the Alternatives website says the company offers families the ability to "go green" when they lay their loved one to rest, providing that type of product in order to reduce carbon emissions, toxification and waste.
Amanda's mother said her daughter "was a very caring individual" and that she would "help others." That sounds like someone who would welcome a Celebration of Life service. And one thing the Todd stalker should not be able to rob the teen from in addition to her life is the celebration of it.
The Jessica Ridgeway memorial service sought to reclaim the family's vision of their loved one this past week too, drawing as many as 3,000 to pay their respects for another young victim of crime. It would not be surprising to learn the Amanda Todd memorial service draws as large a crowd as well.
