Rumor has it that Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro, recently suffered an embolic stroke and that the octogenarian is in incredibly poor health. Supposedly, the once vibrant and vicious leader can no longer eat or speak. Some even say that he doesn't recognize those around him.
A so-called "respected doctor" named Jose Marquina supposedly gave the El Nuevo Herald first-hand information about the once-feared dictator's medical status. However, none of that has been completely confirmed.
Marquina reportedly told the newspaper that Castro could continue living for weeks in his current condition. However, he also supposedly told them it was unlikely that Castro would be seen in public again.
The latter comes as no real surprise given that Fidel hasn't been seen publicly for about six months. His last public appearance took place in March when the Pope (Benedict XVI) visited Cuba.
To be fair, however, rumors have floated around for months that the dictator was on his last legs. So far, that's all they are—rumors. They may actually add fuel to the fire, though, given that those in power are unlikely to admit to the leader's impending decline until they're forced to do so.
Castro's death would no doubt make some people very happy, although it would unlikely end his reign of terror. For many American Hollywood stars, however, his death would be a sad one. Some actually respect the man whose cruelty to his own people is legendary.
