Aurora shooting suspect James Holmes is now in the middle of a Colorado District Attorney election race.
Republican George Brauchler (pictured) is battling Democrat Ethan Feldman to replace the term-limited Carol Chambers, for the seat encompassing Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties.
The campaign has gotten very contentious in the last few weeks, as the Aurora Batman shooting has become front-and-center. Whoever wins, will decide whether to seek the death penalty against the Dark Knight suspect, so of course it's a very sensitive subject.
No politician should exploit a human tragedy, especially one of this magnitude. However, one of these fellows will be directly involved in the James Holmes case, so it's a valid issue in this election. If Feldman and Brauchler were competing for a congressional slot, or the governorship, that would be a different story altogether.
One of these candidates will be the actual prosecutor, so the public should learn each man's general views on the death penalty, as well as his specific opinions about the Aurora massacre.
