Holly Petraeus is reportedly "livid" about her husband's affair (affairs). Her father, General William A. Knowlton, a four-star general and NATO commander was the superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in the early 1970s. According to a bio, her "great-great-grandfather fought in the Civil War and the Indian Wars; her great-grandfather was a brigadier general in the Spanish-American War; her grandfather served in both world wars, earning a Silver Star in the first and rising to lieutenant colonel in the second." Saying she's from a 'military family' is an understatement!
Hollister Knowlton met David Petraeus on a blind date in 1973 when she was a college student and he was a West Point cadet. After graduation, the got married, had two children and moved around 24 times. She worked as head of the Better Business Bureau's Military Line and as assistant director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Office of Servicemember Affairs. Her husband once said, "the greatest source of support, wise counsel, and love that any soldier could have." The ideal Army wife. Self-confident, strong, supportive. By now, everyone knows what that got her.
Sources have said that Mrs. Petraeus knew about the affair for at least the past few months. Judging by the bizarre behavior of her husband's mistress, Paula Broadwell, perhaps she's the one who told Mrs. Petraeus or arranged for her to find out? Retired U.S. Army Col. Steve Boylan, a former spokesman for David Petraeus said he had a conversation with Gen. Petraeus who described his wife's reaction by saying "furious would be an understatement." Well, imagine that!
It begs the question, why is she still with him? Maybe she's taking some time to cool off. If she's known "for several months", how much more time does she need? Was she waiting for the public humility that is hitting now? The rude people blaming her for his disgusting behavior? You read that right, blaming her for the affair! In the comments on a recent piece on the affair, out of over 1,200 comments, several, including the first one say things like, "Well, look at her!" and "She looks like his great-grandmother. She should be at least 75 pounds lighter. I blame it on her appearance." Beautiful women are cheated on every day, but that doesn't take the sting out of the words.
The end result of the affair remains to be seen. The kids are grown and moved away, public humiliation, a likely case of bribery or something darn close regarding Benghazi...all good reasons for Holly Petraeus to get the hell outta dodge. Time to hold her head high and walk right out of the public eye and away from the sick little world of a 'Fatal Attraction' type mistress, a possible sexy spy from Lebanon, an exhibitionist spook, another perv general and most of all, her ungrateful scumbag of a spouse. That cowardly husband who could have given the gift of truth to four families suffering the loss of loved ones in Benghazi and suffered nothing more than what he's 'suffering' now. Don't walk, Holly, RUN.
