Christian Cult Leader an 'Ex-Gay' Evangelical

The leader of the Christian cult connected to the murder of Bethany Deaton is a self-proclaimed 'ex-gay' minister -- which is something else that connects him to the International House of Prayer. The "pray the gay away" mentality is one that IHOP is known for having, with more than one so called 'ex-gay' minister in their ranks. The reason why it's news that Tyler Deaton is among those ranks is because of the latest accusations being made against him.

Not only is Tyler accused of calling for the murder of his wife Bethany Deaton, but he's accused of participating in multiple sexual encounters with the males in the community he presided over as a "spiritual leader." This goes to show that the whole "pray the gay away" thing is a wash, but it also reveals what kind of socially unacceptable behavior may come from stifling one's sexual identity. Would this man have gone down the path he is currently on had he not been coerced by religion to believe being homosexual is "wrong?"

Regardless of the "what ifs" in this situation, it's good that Tyler Deaton is being investigated with other members of the IHOP-affiliated cult he is the leader of. Hopefully Bethany Deaton can get justice for what happened to her, and this story serves as a warning, or an eye-openener, to those who are blind to what happens right in their own communities under the guise of religion and fellowship.

Ill tell you what caused him to murder his wife it was the Pauline and Levitican Judeo-Christian doctrine that told him he was garbage and a condemned soul due to his gayness which he carried as a conflict in his mind. This doctrine is preached in most all churches and creates a psychological firestorm in the minds of gay people. I was in such a church and as a gay man; I realized that it was doing much harm to my human spirit, and left among other reasons such as I do not believe the church is interpreting or understanding scripture as Jesus taught it.

Because it is written in a book, that many say is the word of God does not mean the entire book is the word of God. I think the homosexual hate in the bible should be outlawed in the United States and the world and called out for what it is: Hate Speech. Any gay person that goes to a outwardly hating gay Christian church should leave and find a more gay friendly church or simply go home and just read select sections of the bible especially the 4 Gospels because that is what the bible is a book of many books woven together by brilliant editors in the 4th century AD same with the Hebrew bible that was edited in the 3rd century AD. It is time we take our soul search right to Jesus and not to men and these church leaders who are misguided and in some respects jealous and hateful. I believe church is good for everyone especially children but this gay condemnation needs to stop because what it is doing is creating a very big psychological mess in these people especially the fragile young.

I agree with the poster above. Religious brainwashings can lead to self loathing and righting wrongs--all the while committing crimes. It's sad when a crime is used to cover something that isn't a crime. These are indeed cults when they make people so ashamed to be who they are and live a lie. On a lighter note, they should find a better name than Intermational House of Prayer. I saw IHOP and wondered what this had to do with pancakes. Then I focused. :)

Heres another exqample of what fix the gays does to people

A fixed gay - it took me 2 dozen monthly dinner meetings before I finally broke through to his insanity

He told me that "Matthew Shepards parents shoudl have fixed him. Essentailly blaming Matthews parents for his sgrisly murder

I read this back to him 30 sec later and then he dened he said it

Then he told me thaat gays support the westboro baptist church nutcase

All the fixers do is drive these victims ever more deeply into the closet, and fill them with hate for themselves. Anything can happen then
