A police officer arrested yesterday in Colorado faces charges stemming from an alleged connection with a sex crimes case in Alabama. Lt. Aaron Lucas is being held in the El Paso County jail without bail as a fugitive from justice. For someone in law enforcement, he certainly has a lengthy list of charges that date back as far as 2002.
Lucas is facing charges in Madison, Alabama for a 2002 child enticement and sexual child abuse case. He was also arrested in October for his alleged connection with a kidnapping case. As if those charges weren't enough, he also faces charges from three Colorado jurisdictions. The 21 counts in Colorado include attempted sexual assault of a child, indecent exposure, kidnapping, enticement, and aggravated sexual assault on a child. He has managed to rack up those 21 charges in only three years, as he didn't arrive at Fort Carson until 2009.
While the police officer arrested hasn't been convicted of any of these charges, it is very scary to think of someone with these types of tendencies being a law enforcement officer. It kind of makes one wonder just what kind of background check law enforcement officers go through and if those checks even do any good. It will be interesting to see just how all of these charges turn out.
